Recognize Your Roots: Jefferson Parish Pioneer Certificates

The Jefferson Parish Historical Commission established its Pioneer Certificate program in 2006 to celebrate the individuals who first settled our parish. If you’re a direct descendant of a Jefferson Parish pioneer, you can apply for a certificate to honor their significant contributions. Your ancestor’s residency in the parish does not need to have been continuous.

We recognize pioneers across five distinct timeframes:

  • Centennial Settlers: Lived in Jefferson Parish between 100 and 124 years ago.
  • Quasquicentennial Settlers: Lived in Jefferson Parish between 125 and 149 years ago.
  • Sesquicentennial Settlers: Lived in Jefferson Parish between 150 and 174 years ago.
  • Terquasquicentennial Settlers: Lived in Jefferson Parish between 175 years ago and February 11, 1825.
  • Jefferson Parish Colonials: Lived in the area before Jefferson Parish was officially established on February 11, 1825.
