Originally, Fort Morgan was a massive Confederate fortification in Jefferson Parish on the Mississippi River built to defend the City of New Orleans from Federal assault. After capture by Federal forces and renamed Camp Parapet, the fortification was expanded to defend against retaliatory Confederate assault. What remains today is one of its powder magazines.

During this once-a-year event, go inside the powder magazine and imagine soldiers’ conversations that were spoken within its walls. Be part of flag raising ceremonies representing the progression of the War. Meet and visit uniformed Civil War reenactors. View displays of weapons, clothing and artifacts while being entertained by period dancers. Relive life in the Camp through letters from soldiers. Enjoy a highly detailed diorama, with soldiers and artillery figures, of the Camp as it appeared during the War.

Exhibitors attending include Jefferson Historical Society, Destrehan Plantation, Creole 43 Antique Clock Club, and other historic organizations and sites.

Located off S. Causeway Blvd. between Jefferson Highway and River Road in Old Jefferson (Metairie). Free parking in the median of S. Causeway Blvd. Entrance is located at the dead end of Arlington Street
