Board of Directors

The Board of Directors for the Jefferson Historical Society is a carefully structured body, drawing its composition from two distinct sources to ensure comprehensive representation and oversight. A significant portion of the board comprises members of the Jefferson Parish Historical Commission. These individuals are selected through a formal appointment process by the Jefferson Parish Council, signifying a direct link to local governmental and historical preservation efforts.

Complementing these appointed members are representatives chosen directly from the society’s general membership. These board members are elected annually through a democratic process, allowing the broader membership to directly influence the society’s leadership and direction. This dual composition ensures that the Board of Directors benefits from both official civic engagement and the active participation of its dedicated members.

The society’s leadership also includes a comprehensive slate of officer positions, each fulfilling a vital role in the organization’s operations and mission. These positions include a president, who presumably presides over meetings and guides the society’s overall vision; a vice president, who supports the president and assumes duties in their absence; a secretary, responsible for maintaining records and correspondence; and a treasurer, who manages the society’s financial affairs. Further specialized roles include a parliamentarian, ensuring adherence to procedural rules; a chaplain, providing spiritual guidance; a sergeant-at-arms, maintaining order during meetings; a historian, dedicated to preserving and documenting the society’s own history; and an archivist, responsible for the care and organization of historical documents and artifacts.
